Hi, I’m Jesse – a graduating Communication Design Honours student from the all endearing Frankston. Over the past four years of study, I have initiated myself into this expansive design world with strong passion, ambition and enthusiasm. Starting my course without a cemented idea on the specific direction of design I wanted to pursue, I embraced each unit, each project and each opportunity with an eager, open mind.
During my second year, I was selected for exchange as a Swinburne representative to study at Kwantlen Polytechnic’s Wilson School of Design in Vancouver, Canada. Travelling entirely solo, it was a truly unforgettable experience that pushed me well out of my comfort zone. The semester of design, cheap hostels and mountain hikes certainly advanced my creative skills, as well as my own individuality and character.
My design development was furthered with the help of industry placement work at the Mornington based design studio, Design By Bird, and within the student lead Swinburne Bureau. Working amongst team settings for real life clients gave a welcomed insight into what the industry has in store.
With all the troubles 2020 has brought, I have been fortunate this year in securing a role as a virtual technician for Virtual Tours Australia. Although a slight shift away from the graphic design route, the position looks to broaden my work ethic, connections and technical skillset. With a lifetime ahead of me, I look forward to maintaining my design pursuits along the arbitrary paths I’m sure to end up on.
