Georgia Butterfield

Branded Environments

Georgia Butterfield is a Designer and graduate of Communication Design majoring in Branded Environment at Swinburne, she resides on Boonwurrung & Wurundjeri country. Throughout her studies in Design she has carried an importance for cultural and social change.

Currently, we are living through a permanent amount of change and challenges, from environmental challenges to cultural significance. Georgia believes that Design is the most powerful tool that can intervene in current and future major crises. Design is a convincing tool to tackle complex challenges if it is deployed intelligently and responsibly.

Georgia has also graduated with a Diploma in Visual Merchandising at RMIT in 2016 and has worked professionally in Photography and Filmography. Throughout her studies she has worked in a wide number of creative practices such as Communication Design, Architecture, Media Production, Brand Design, & Typography.

She is passionate about integrating First Nations culture into her designs, creating an impact on communities, and establishing meaningful connections between each other and the built environment. Our stories are the bridges that connect us together.

Modular Housing System

The modular Housing system, 9'000 by 3,000 takes into consideration the Australian climate and accommodates minimal impact on the environment. Constructed with Australian-sourced timber, Jarrah, Pale hoop plywood, and red mahogany. Kitchen parametric details.

Yarn Circle

A gathering circle, space & creative place connecting users and country. A ‘Yarn Circle’ bringing local community involvement through art & culture. A building design that utilizes indoor and outdoor spaces to promote creativity and safety. Branding includes Name & Symbol and other branding extensions.

Honey Like Love

A 24-page Book Design, integrating photography from the semester throughout during COVID-19. Integrating grid, and page layouts.

Vitrine Models for Arden Station

The experience of the new train stations and train line for the passengers will become an overall place to gather and connect with the new bright re-design and accompanied Vitrine displays, that explore colour, light & shape.

Guided by the principles of respect, reconciliation, and reciprocity we undertake to indigenising and decolonising design practice by dismantling colonial structures and challenging biases that have marginalised Indigenous voices and design.

As students of SoDA you will be given opportunities to both engage with and educate yourself in Indigenous creative practices and cultural protocols through a lens of inclusivity, diversity, respect, mutual understanding, inter-cultural dialogue in all aspects of design practice. Indigenous people have been telling stories, making tools, and connecting to Country through visual media, placemaking and place marking for more than 60,000 years and these practices are part of an ongoing, evolving and live tradition.
