Christian Co

Hello there! My name is Christian Co, a junior communication designer who was a part of the honours class of 2025. I mainly operate within the design sphere as a generalist; however, I have a keen interest in incorporating photography into my work whenever appropriate.

A unique aspect about myself is that I currently come from a 7-year career in nursing. This has offered me many different opportunities to improve not only my people skills but also in improving my ability to communicate effectively in high-stress environments. Additionally, his position has allowed me to become more cohesive when working within a team. Building upon this, my recent experience at Efront Digital as their design intern was my first foray into the design landscape. It provided me with valuable experience working with the digital aspects of design and the intricacies of web development.

My personal creative philosophy is that the epitome of design manifests in visuals that incite a lasting impression within the audience. Although a majority of projects define their visual parameters with brand guides and conventions, I still strive to create visual outcomes that are elevated and draw influence from my interests in cinematic and highly stylised compositions such as those from movies, anime and video games.

Moving forward, I plan to further my experience developing promotional material and visuals to hopefully secure a position that directs the creative vision of brands and campaigns.

Swinburne Facilities Design Guide

Developed as the first style guide for the Swinburne University of Technology's interior facilities, this document aims to provide all stakeholders with a clear and concise vision of the university's interior aesthetics.

Open House Melbourne 2024

This 2024 project was developed for Open House Melbourne in collaboration with Studio Payne. This campaign was designed around the motif of distortion and the ability to perceive familiar environments with a fresh lens.

Imagining the Imaging

Imagining the Imaging is a mock exhibition created for the NGV that invites attendees to discover the various medical imaging equipment that has become integral pieces of modern medicine.

In Praise of Shadows

Submitted as part of ISTD's 2025 Student Assessment Scheme, In Praise of Shadows reimagines the classic essay on Japanese aesthetics in an immersive publication that pays homage to the author's philosophy while embodying the visual dissonance of traditionality and modernity.

Carity

A hypothetical rebranding strategy developed for the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF), Carity is an attempt at contemporising the union's brand and visually unifying all of its branches on a national scale.

Acknowledgement of Country

The School of Design and Architecture respectfully acknowledges the Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Owners and knowledge-keepers of the lands, waters and sky that surround us, where we work, learn, create, communicate and make place. We recognise that sovereignty has never been ceded and this always was and will always be Wurundjeri Country. We are dedicated to the notion of design to make a better world and we acknowledge that making tools, shaping place, sharing stories, making meaning, wayfinding and collaborating have long been and continue to be both central and integral to First Peoples' cultures. We recognize that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ cultural contributions have continued relevance to design practice and commit to: reconciling ancestries of design and contemporary practice as well as pursuing culturally and professionally appropriate ways to engage with a diverse population of colleagues, industries and clients. In a time of treaty-making and voice we understand that there are overlaps between caring for Country and the sustainable production of goods, services, experiences, products and buildings.

Guided by the principles of respect, reconciliation, and reciprocity we undertake to indigenising and decolonising design practice by dismantling colonial structures and challenging biases that have marginalised Indigenous voices and design.

As students of SoDA you will be given opportunities to both engage with and educate yourself in Indigenous creative practices and cultural protocols through a lens of inclusivity, diversity, respect, mutual understanding, inter-cultural dialogue in all aspects of design practice. Indigenous people have been telling stories, making tools, and connecting to Country through visual media, placemaking and place marking for more than 60,000 years and these practices are part of an ongoing, evolving and live tradition.
