Tony Vu

With a multidisciplinary background in animation and industrial design, I like to imbue play into all my product solutions. Design is tough, but I embrace the challenge that comes with it - while having a little fun! I believe we should always strive to find ways to enjoy the process, regardless of the challenges. Ultimately, the greatest reward is seeing my design put a smile on someone's face.

I am excited to continue utilising my technical design skills to create playful and meaningful outcomes in future projects beyond graduation. I am always open to work on a wide variety of products to expand my skillset and broaden my horizons.

EmotoNaut - Honours Project

A Social Toy that teaches autistic children complex emotions and their relationship to the body. It addresses barriers to inclusivity in classrooms by using colour mixing to provide a fun, tactile, and visually stimulating medium that the child can use to discuss nuanced emotions. This helps autistic children reciprocate social responses.

Little Live Pets Point of Purchase Stand - Moose Toys

Working with Moose Toys, the project involved designing an eye-catching point-of-purchase stand for the Moose brand Little Live Pets. It was designed to be suitable for a mass retail environment, while balancing aesthetics, branding and the technical considerations that come with a cardboard point of purchase stand.

Swinburne Corporate Gift - Centre of Design Innovation

Working with Swinburne's Product Consultancy - The Centre of Design Innovation - the project involved creating a small, compact gift that represents the university’s key values. There are 6 main buildings, each embodying Swinburne's different schools - AMDC, ATC, EN, AGSE, and the GS building. Each of these buildings can be taken from the main ground plate to act as decorative pieces. The product is to be given to Swinburne’s partners locally and overseas.

Tree World Drinking Tap

The Tree World Tap reimagines drinking fountains to more seamlessly integrate into playgrounds by inspiring imagination and play. As a child drinks from the fountain, some of the water will fall into a basin that funnels it throughout the structure, before ending up at the bottom to irrigate the surrounding plant life. This creates a dynamic water work that is fun to watch. The fountain also considers the anthropometrics of a 10 - 12-year-old, while inspiring wonder with its bright, vibrant design and built-in diorama.

Toy Trotter

A portable toy chest that young children can pull around by the tongue when cleaning. The Trotter's soft fabric and ample upholstery give it a soft and tactile experience that will leave children in glee. It loves to eat toys, making it the best companion during pack-up time!
