Amrik Singh is a photomedia student, with a focus on commercial and fashion photography. He strives to bend the typical conventions of the industry by utilising his unique style that features unique camera techniques and bold lighting. Amrik aims to break into the fashion industry by positioning his work at the intersection of innovation, style, and artistic intent.
His Photomedia Capstone project ‘In Motion’ explores the intersection of fashion and experimental image-making, merging the precision of commercial photography with the expressive potential of in-camera techniques. Amrik’s practice challenges the conventional boundaries of fashion imagery by incorporating slow shutter speeds, motion, and expressive colour lighting to evoke a sense of atmosphere and emotional resonance. These methods disrupt the static, polished aesthetic often associated with the genre, instead transforming each image into a narrative moment suspended in time. Through deliberate manipulation of light and motion, he constructs a visual language that blends artistic experimentation with the structured demands of commercial photography. The resulting works are both refined and spontaneous, celebrating the fashion form while inviting viewers to interpret the gestures, rhythms, and textures embedded within each frame. By situating In Motion within the evolving space between art and commerce, he aims to demonstrate how innovation and technical experimentation can enhance storytelling within fashion photography. Each image becomes more than a documentation of garments or design; it functions as a performance of light, time, and intention. The project ultimately seeks to redefine how contemporary fashion imagery can communicate narrative, emotion, and brand identity, encouraging a more immersive and conceptually rich approach to visual communication in the commercial sphere.
