Evie Kelly

Evie Kelly is a photographer and visual media artist working in Naarm/ Melbourne. She predominantly shoots on 35mm film, with a passion for experimenting with movement, light and colour. She loves to shoot on film because it's unpredictability and to be more intentional in her practice.

Her Capstone project is titled 'Sense'. It explores the essence of feeling an abnormal and transcendental presence. Fleeting scenes of strange figures and enigmatic movement are interwoven with eerie landscapes to create a body of work that depicts the intangibility of the moment. She utilises multiple techniques to build the atmosphere in her work, including double exposures to create laying, slow shutter speeds to emphasise movement and light painting to highlight strange figures. Her work is inspired by her upbringing in a 'haunted' home. Since her childhood, she has often chased this peculiar feeling. Rather than depicting the sensation as being scary or uncanny, she hopes viewers will feel curious while also at ease.

As a soon to be graduate of Film and Television (Honours) with a minor in Photomedia, she enjoys working with multimedia and videography. She intends to continue to work with a range of media in her practice. She works on the land of the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung and Bunurong Boonwurrung people of the Kulin Nations.
