Erika Cirillo

UX Interaction Design

Erika Cirillo is a versatile graphic designer with a passion for crafting vibrant and engaging visual identities that take into consideration the human experience.

Erika decided to leave her rural Victorian hometown in 2019 to move to the creative hub of Melbourne, to pursue a Bachelor of Design from the Swinburne University of Technology. Majoring in Communication and UX Design, Erika is a problem solver driven by empathy, so designs in a way that's both visually engaging and human-centered.

Their dedication and talent were acknowledged with a letter of commendation in 2020 and 2021 by Professor Chris Pilgrim, the Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer at Swinburne University. Erika's creative journey extends beyond the classroom. Since 2019, they have been actively freelancing, offering their design expertise to a variety of clients. Notable among these clients are Inventium, Mercedes Benz Club Victoria, Walks with Olli, and its sub-brand, Olli The Label.

When Erika is not designing, you can find her spending time away from her computer at the beach with her partner, or off finding hidden gems at her local op shop.

National Bowel Screening Kit redesign

In Australia, at-home bowel screening kits have a low return rate. To address this issue, the Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery (ACMD) initiated a partnership with the 2023 Swinburne UX Design Capstone cohort to increase participation.

High Fidelity site

This brief’s challenge was to develop a functional interactive prototype using Axure RP. I decided to create an online music store, focusing on a niche audience of Australian of alternative music enthusiasts.

An 'Ideal' Form publication

I created a monothematic publication, and choose a pre-existing text to translate into visuals. I decided to choose ‘The Cultural Politics of Gender Performance’ by Benzi Zhang (2011).

Celebrate your BeauTEA

This campaign saw T2 aim to expand their demographic to be more inclusive of Australia’s Asian-Australian population, to promote inclusivity and marketability. This was a collaboration campaign with Lush to celebrates the Lunar New Year.

Planet Over Profit

For this brief I had to create and implement a new brand identity using the branding process. I developed and designed this brandmark, and extended its identity into brand assets, guidelines, and applications.

Acknowledgement of Country

The School of Design and Architecture respectfully acknowledges the Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Owners and knowledge-keepers of the lands, waters and sky that surround us, where we work, learn, create, communicate and make place. We recognize that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ cultural contributions have continued relevance to design practice and commit to: reconciling ancestries of design and contemporary practice as well as pursuing culturally and professionally appropriate ways to engage with a diverse population of colleagues, industries and clients. In a time of treaty-making and voice we understand that there are overlaps between caring for Country and the sustainable production of goods, services, experiences, products and buildings.

Guided by the principles of respect, reconciliation, and reciprocity we undertake to indigenising and decolonising design practice by dismantling colonial structures and challenging biases that have marginalised Indigenous voices and design.

As students of SoDA you will be given opportunities to both engage with and educate yourself in Indigenous creative practices and cultural protocols through a lens of inclusivity, diversity, respect, mutual understanding, inter-cultural dialogue in all aspects of design practice. Indigenous people have been telling stories, making tools, and connecting to Country through visual media, placemaking and place marking for more than 60,000 years and these practices are part of an ongoing, evolving and live tradition.
