Chelsea Dillon

Hi, I’m Chelsea! I’m a 2024 graduate from Swinburne University of Technology in Hawthorn. I have completed a four-year Honours degree in Bachelor of Design, specialising in Communication Design I have an enthusiasm for arts and creativity! Ever since I was little, I loved doodling, creating art and crafting with any materials available around me. I always knew I wanted to be in the creative industry, living and breathing in inspiration and new ideas every day is my passion. I can not imagine myself doing anything else!

During my time at university, I was fortunate to travel to Berlin, Germany to immerse myself in an overseas internship. I was learning the works of social media and marketing through a design perspective, having the experience of a modern studio environment amongst a diverse culture of designers. I have also had the opportunity to work with Museums Victoria which involves the three main venues of Melbourne Museum, Immigration Museum and Scienceworks. This placement provided the opportunity to work in both print and digital outcomes, focusing on design for tourism and young family audiences.

As a graduate, I have comprehensive skills in proactiveness in design decisions, meeting and exceeding expectations and clear of communication of ideas. I enjoy studio cultures, collaborating with other designers and merging ideas to achieve the best possible outcome. I have a love for illustration and digital design. I am also passionate about print media, typography and video animation.

In a time of treaty-making and voice we understand that there are overlaps between caring for Country and the sustainable production of goods, services, experiences, products and buildings.

Guided by the principles of respect, reconciliation, and reciprocity we undertake to indigenising and decolonising design practice by dismantling colonial structures and challenging biases that have marginalised Indigenous voices and design.

As students of SoDA you will be given opportunities to both engage with and educate yourself in Indigenous creative practices and cultural protocols through a lens of inclusivity, diversity, respect, mutual understanding, inter-cultural dialogue in all aspects of design practice. Indigenous people have been telling stories, making tools, and connecting to Country through visual media, placemaking and place marking for more than 60,000 years and these practices are part of an ongoing, evolving and live tradition.
