James Ventura

Hello! I am James. I completed a Bachelor of Design (Architecture) at Swinburne University of Technology. I appreciate how good design can positively influence people. I strive to learn how to design built environments that bring people together, activate communities and positively impact people's lives.

As I prepare to step into the professional world, I aim to contribute my creativity, drive and persistence when designing meaningful spaces. I constantly seek to learn, as design can be experienced differently by many different people. I am inspired by designing spaces that aren't only functional but can instil a story within their built form, as these spaces can be experienced in so many facets, such as experientially and thoughtfully.

Feel free to connect and check out my portfolio linked as well!

"THE FRAME" - FIRST TAKE

Architectural Design Studio 5
Point of arrival introduces the drive-in cinema and shopping arcade. Newport, being a transit suburb during the day, nightlife is activated through various programs, including bars, arcades, and a drive-in cinema. During the day, the car park is utilised by commuters and is located next to the Substation as both these programs work together to celebrate art and film.

"THE FRAME" - NEWPORT REELS

Architectural Design Studio 5
The drive-in cinema bridges together existing celebration of art from the Substation and the new permanent museum "The Frame". During the day it opens up to its daily users who commute and at night it activates the night life along with the arcade, bar, retail zones and night market. The drive-in cinema unites Newport with it's deep history in film and industrial background taking users back in time whilst adhering to the change to contemporary media.

SEAESCAPE. - WATERFRONT PLACEMAKING BLUEPRINT

Architectural Design Studio 4
Exploded Axonometric for Seaescape, a waterfront placemaking intervention proposed to activate North Wharf's unused space. Our proposal introduces a museum and ship exhibition to pay homage to North Wharf's industrial heritage. A community park and viewing decks are introduced to harmonise the proposed residential apartments and the general public. The existing boardwalk was extended to connect these programs. Thus, aiming to create a space that allows the general public to have a break from the daily hustle present in the city's surroundings.
