Gabi Long

Gabi is a creative thinker who blends visual ideas with thoughtful planning to produce work that is considered and complete. She majored in Communication Design at Swinburne University, where she developed a love for exploring the connection between concept and craft.

Over her time at Swinburne, her projects have grown in depth, creativity, and ambition, reflecting her enjoyment of developing full campaigns and stories from concept to completion. She brings ideas to life with purpose, using a range of tools and mediums, including AI, to fully realise her vision.

Outside the studio, she enjoys cooking and gardening, often impressing friends and family with her baking and thriving (if slightly chaotic) houseplants. She approaches every project with the same care and attention she gives to a well-planned campaign or perfectly baked cake.

Kayo Reposition Capstone Project

All Eyes on Her is a nationwide repositioning of Kayo that positions the platform as the home of women’s sport, centred around a new Women’s Hub that makes female leagues easier to find and follow. The campaign includes posters, digital content, PR boxes, and a business plan outlining long-term strategies to sustain growth and visibility.

Secret Garden AR Reboot

This project reimagines The Secret Garden as an augmented reality experience for adults, using a QR code “key” to unlock a hidden digital garden layered over urban spaces. Created in collaboration with AI software and enhanced using Photoshop and Illustrator, it reminds audiences that magic can still be found in unexpected places.

Monothematic Publication

Based on Shaoni C. White’s Race, Gender, and the Separation of Voice and Body in the Audio Drama Podcast, this design book visualises ideas of disembodiment and subversion through a brutalist aesthetic, using scanned textures, bold typography, and fragmentation to reflect the separation of voice and body.

3D Office Scene

Created in Maya, this 3D scene depicts a 1980s office where a businessman sets up his first desktop computer, using everyday objects and personal details to reveal the quiet narrative of his life beyond work.

Mini Chair Figurine Packaging

This is a luxury blind-box range which features collectible miniature chairs packaged in minimalist graphics, bold duotone palettes, and a folded insert that shares each chair’s history and collector’s edition number.

Acknowledgement of Country

We recognize that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ cultural contributions have continued relevance to design practice and commit to: reconciling ancestries of design and contemporary practice as well as pursuing culturally and professionally appropriate ways to engage with a diverse population of colleagues, industries and clients. In a time of treaty-making and voice we understand that there are overlaps between caring for Country and the sustainable production of goods, services, experiences, products and buildings.

Guided by the principles of respect, reconciliation, and reciprocity we undertake to indigenising and decolonising design practice by dismantling colonial structures and challenging biases that have marginalised Indigenous voices and design.

As students of SoDA you will be given opportunities to both engage with and educate yourself in Indigenous creative practices and cultural protocols through a lens of inclusivity, diversity, respect, mutual understanding, inter-cultural dialogue in all aspects of design practice. Indigenous people have been telling stories, making tools, and connecting to Country through visual media, placemaking and place marking for more than 60,000 years and these practices are part of an ongoing, evolving and live tradition.
