Hi, I’m Aoife Dormer, a communication designer working across the graphic design world to craft bold, thoughtful, and visually engaging work that connects ideas to people. My experience spans across branding, social campaigns, and creative strategy, from developing conceptual projects at university to working on real-world design briefs and local initiatives. I love collaborating with people to create something unique, bold and meaningful. At Swinburne, I’ve honed my skills in both visual storytelling and strategic communication, blending creativity with insight to produce designs that mean something and is a reflection of who I am.

Beyond The Valley - Rebrand

For this project, I took the popular Australian music festival BTV, and rebranded their poster design. I wanted the design to be unique and different to anything BTV has designed before, including bright, popping colors, and large bold designs to stand out amongst a crowd.

Play It Forward

This was my 2025 Capstone Project, Play it Forward. A charity event for client Netball Australia to support children who face financial or social barriers to joining a local netball club. The event provides children with the opportunity to play for free, gain inspiration from elite athletes, and experience the joy of sport.

Interest in Virtual Reality

This publication explores the enduring fascination with virtual reality, challenging the notion that VR is a purely modern phenomenon. Through bold typography, a monochromatic palette, and motion-inspired imagery, the design captures the futuristic yet historical essence of VR’s evolution.

Play It Forward - Poster

Play It Forward is a fundraising campaign created for Netball Australia to support children who face financial or social barriers to joining a local netball club. This was one of the two posters created as part of this project.

Mellons

These beverage can mockups showcase a high-contrast, playful branding approach for "Mellons" cocktails. The design features a stylised, abstract mascot figure rendered in thin line art, layered over bold, organic color blobs.

Acknowledgement of Country

We are dedicated to the notion of design to make a better world and we acknowledge that making tools, shaping place, sharing stories, making meaning, wayfinding and collaborating have long been and continue to be both central and integral to First Peoples' cultures. We recognize that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ cultural contributions have continued relevance to design practice and commit to: reconciling ancestries of design and contemporary practice as well as pursuing culturally and professionally appropriate ways to engage with a diverse population of colleagues, industries and clients. In a time of treaty-making and voice we understand that there are overlaps between caring for Country and the sustainable production of goods, services, experiences, products and buildings.

Guided by the principles of respect, reconciliation, and reciprocity we undertake to indigenising and decolonising design practice by dismantling colonial structures and challenging biases that have marginalised Indigenous voices and design.

As students of SoDA you will be given opportunities to both engage with and educate yourself in Indigenous creative practices and cultural protocols through a lens of inclusivity, diversity, respect, mutual understanding, inter-cultural dialogue in all aspects of design practice. Indigenous people have been telling stories, making tools, and connecting to Country through visual media, placemaking and place marking for more than 60,000 years and these practices are part of an ongoing, evolving and live tradition.
