My name is Jaxon Parbery. I am a third-year student graduating from the Bachelor of Design (Architecture). This is my second time returning to this course after a two-year hiatus pursuing carpentry during the extensive lockdowns. Carpentry has influenced my path in Architecture, building a strong sense of practicality and appreciation for the process and finer details.
An aspect of this course that I have loved is the sense of community within the cohort as well as the collaborative nature of the course. Being able to bounce ideas between friends and lecturers creates stronger architectural thinking in all of us.
As a kid, I always said I wanted to be an architect, not that I knew what that really meant. The long days pouring over little details, hours spent making models, drawings, plans and presentations. I said I wanted to be an architect because I loved to draw little cities and imagine how people would run around crazy buildings and then relax in their cozy little homes.
What I imagined being architecture when I was 10 is very different to what I imagine my next 10 years to be.
I am going to keep the sense of play that I wanted to explore as a child.
Who says architecture can't be and isn't fun?
