Creativity has always been the key source of release and happiness so it was no surprise that my appreciation for design and architecture developed naturally from a young age. I found myself fascinated at structures of all scales, the variation of materials, and the complexities of form and shape. The emotion of design and space enveloped my mind, through this course I’ve found myself so invested and fascinated in developing ideas that question the nature of emotion within architecture.

My passion for design exists through generating intrigue in order to reflect cohesion and interaction between living and inanimate. My design language of interior and exterior substance exists to satisfy minimalist ideals, emphasising simple forms that apply within the natural / surrounding environment. Form, materiality, tactile elements, and the human connection all form my drive for Architecture.

I hope that you find my work is indicative of my philosophy, and is ultimately what makes design so significant to me.

Exterior Landscape.

The exterior landscape serves the aspect of continuity and reparation. Once serving as a marshlands that supplied life for flora and fauna, can now exist again. Water is positioned through the site in geological consideration of the sites pre-existing topography, promoting growth. This combined with the inclusion of riparian greening aims to improve local biodiversity and ecological networks.

Transition Space.

The repositioning of the crane generated a necessity to bridge aspects of pre and post-colonisation, with its presence as a marker for the site. Positioning it within the middle of the proposal creates an opportunity for individuals to reflect and gauge the drastic shift of post-industrial materials and their role in shaping the docklands and seafarers precinct. The idea of continuity is brought through the water, which following from the stream, shifts vertically down the face of the transitional spaces curved walls.

Museum Entrance.

Focused on the contrast and connection between pre and post-colonisation through sensory architecture and strategic placement of form. MOCM generates unique movement and contemplative response through three distinct zones, exploring the relationship between nature and people, and how we perceive ideas of experiencing and living.

VOID.

A contrasting symbol of Newport power station, the void presents a contrast to the sheer domination and imposing scale it reins upon Newport. The void intends to present an inversion of the plant, where the void provides light, and the walls emit a deep darkness. This space enroots the emotions and identity of the following industrial spaces, where this first area defines itself as a beacon, much in similarity with the power station itself.
