Hi my name is Jesse and I’ve just recently completed studying a Bachelor of Design with an Architecture major. To me the most enjoyable part about studying architecture is seeing the initial research stages make way to the actual design and creating stage. I enjoy the problem solving/testing different things part as well as seeing other people’s ideas.

In life, my inspiration for design comes from looking at a style of architecture and researching the real world conditions and environments which shaped and caused that style to eventuate. My particular favourite style is the Metabolist movement, and in particular the Nakagin Capsule Tower by Kishi Kurokawa. While I haven't yet been able to try something of similar style, the fact that something so out of the ordinary and unique can exist inspires me to keep trying and to see where I can go.

I'm thankful that having now completed my undergraduate degree in design, my belief in myself and my desire to be a problem solver through design has been affirmed, and I'm now eagerly awaiting the opportunity to one day design a building which has a profoundly positive affect on many people's lives

Frontiers of Researchand Technology Museum & Community Precinct

This project was completed as part as of my final design studio of my undergraduate degree, in semester 2 2024. The task was to create a museum and revitalise Newport, Victoria, a once industrial power that has been struggling with it's identity in a now de-industrialised Melbourne.

The F.O.R.T is not only a museum, but an entire precinct in itself, something that was necessary due to the sheer size of the site. In addition to the over 8000 square metres of exhibition space, The F.O.R.T includes workshops, office spaces, community markets, children play areas, and other community benefits in an attempt to activate the area for residents of Newport at all times of day and year

Hoping to become a icon of Newport which is visible from most places, the monolithic structure is cantilevered above a raised landscape with a small number of supporting tree columns, which blend in with the raised landscape circulation routes that have been created. With the removal of parking on Market Street, having been moved to a new parking facility across the train lines the street front is allowed to be utilised more and better connected to the existing open spaces, such as Market St Reserve and the Newport Oval.

The F.O.R.T is designed to activate the whole of Newport and be open to everyone. It's main technique in doing this is by creating a continuous circulation route for pedestrians to the site from the key PTV nodes, Newport Train Station and Newport Bus Interchange.

The raised landscape provide pleasant and safe trips on foot or on bike for not just museum visitors, but every resident as well, with the large Spanish Steps blending the raised landscaping into the street level also providing spaces for people to meet and hang out.

Regeneration

This project was completed as part as of my fourth design studio of my undergraduate degree, in semester 1 2024. The task was to take an undeveloped and avoided piece of land in Melbourne's Docklands, an turn it into an attractive, mixed-use student housing development which would activate the area and attract people to an otherwise, out-of-the-way area. "Regeneration" is a student housing project which mixes professional research into habitat and ecosystem restoration, with university degrees in environmental sciences to foster a connection which benefits students, professionals, and the whole public through their work in restoring the Yarra River

Regeneration

The main goal of "Regeneration" was to revitalise the Yarra River, which we saw as the source of the unattractiveness of the area, by means of rehabilitating the historic ecosystems and habitats which were once on the land before colonisation. The marshy wetlands not only passively cleansed the water, but provided opportunity for studying and research in the labs, hands-on maintenance, and a pleasant destination to walk to and through for city residents.
