Hi, my name is Campbell Hutton and I've just finished my Bachelor of Design (Architecture) at Swinburne University. Thanks for visiting my page.

Architecture for me has always been a career that I gravitated towards since I was in highscool, as it combines the ability to be creative, while still having constraints that test my problem solving and critical thinking. I enjoy working with both built and unbuilt environment within my projects, as well as having a keen interest in the ability to merge the architectural side of my design with graphic design to further express myself through my work. I have developed a passion for architecture and design in general over the duration of this 3 year course, and aim to continue developing this passion and my skillset into the future.

Feel free to reach out or check out my socials! Thanks

The Blend - Campus

The Blend was a project created by myself and Karim Sawares as our response to our final Studio 5 brief. Surrounded by both commercial and residential realms of Newport, we aimed to create a campus along our 300m site on Market street, blending these two realms using a variety of typologies, unique to each program.

The Blend - Museum

The hero of our project 'The Blend' is the industrial museum. Split into 3 sections, our museum takes visitors on a journey through professional exhibits, historical monuments and community work displays. Our museum features a monolithic facade that allows light to pierce its way into the display areas through small triangular openings, as well as utilising an exposed structural framing system to foster a sense of industry and craftsmanship.

Ripples of the Yarra

A mixed use project concerned with the ideas of placemaking, destination & interaction, myself and Karim Sawares responded to our Studio 4 brief by exploring the 'ripple effect'. The concept of primary and secondary modules framed the theory behind our design, where an ampitheatre became the primary epicentre of attraction to our site that then ripples out towards the secondary programs such as a gallery, cafe/restaurant, collaborative studio spaces and housing. This 'ripple effect' also responds to the idea of expanding our audience further across the Melbourne CBD and continue growing as does a ripple in water.

Studio 4 - Form Finding

For our project, 'Ripples of the Yarra' we began the semester looking into form finding, where we aimed to extract a principle from our form finding methods to dictate our design concepts. Using our interlinked 3D cube mesh, we discovered the idea of primary & secondary modules, where external forces on a primary module would impact the movement of the secondary, with the secondary then impacting the following linked modules, and so on. We translated this theory into the idea of attractor points in our site, where by manipulating one aspect/program of our project, following aspects/programs would also see change.

Thunderstorms - Architectural Communications

This project looked into Dreamtime storytelling, and how we as a group could extract allegories from our Dreamtime story, and translate those findings into a physical module & exhibition. Myself, Jaxon & Corey explored themes of the cycle of life and rebirth, where the movement of the storm from mellow to treacherous suggests the different stages of this cycle. A fabric sheet represents the clouds, connected to raindrop shaped arms that are manipulated by a crankshaft at fluctuating speeds to depict these changes in weather through the storm.
