Hi, I’m Zali!

I’m a Communication Design graduate with a solid foundation from four years of study at Swinburne University, complemented by a year of industry experience. I bring a mix of creativity and reliability to every project, thriving in collaborative spaces where ideas flow and new perspectives are encouraged. My approach is thoughtful and adaptable, always aimed at producing work that resonates and makes an impact.

I have a deep passion for graphic design, particularly typography and publication. Nothing compares to the art of publication design and the tactile experience of physical print. I’m also drawn to experimenting with texture and photography, constantly pushing myself to create unique and innovative designs.

Thanks for visiting!

ISTD: Heartstrings of Reason

In 'Heartstrings of Reason', I respond to the brief, “The Line,” by exploring the fine boundary between intuition and rationality. This project brings together quotes from Friedrich Schlegel, a voice of Romanticism, and Voltaire, a champion of Enlightenment ideals. These two figures represent opposing philosophical stances—Schlegel embraces emotion and intuition, while Voltaire advocates for reason and logic. By positioning their words side-by-side, I highlight the distinct moral divide that defines their ideas and brings “The Line” between thought and feeling into focus. Through typographic treatments and material contrasts, *Heartstrings of Reason* serves as my visual exploration of how design can translate complex philosophical ideas, encouraging readers to reflect on their balance between the heart and mind.

Srsly? Speeding

For the 2023 Re:act program, our team was tasked with creating a campaign to encourage young drivers to drive at a ‘safer speed’. We designed the ‘srsly?’ campaign to challenge young drivers’ perceptions and attitudes towards speeding. Our concept was selected as the winning design, and in August, our posters and billboards were launched across Victoria. The campaign aimed to spark reflection and promote safer driving habits through impactful visuals and clear messaging, engaging the target audience in a memorable and relevant way.

Gwenda

This project focuses on transforming the traditional penmanship of my Nan’s handwriting into a contemporary digital typeface. By bridging the charm of handwritten calligraphy with modern typography, the design preserves both the emotional and aesthetic essence of the original script. Drawing from the limited handwriting samples available, I used Calligrapher for font creation and Adobe Illustrator for the technical refinements. This process not only honours the legacy of personal memory and tradition but also incorporates contemporary design tools, creating a unique connection between the past and the present through typography.

Typescape Hawthorn

The Typescape Hawthorn project explores how typography can visually communicate the historical identity of Hawthorn, aiming to enhance local awareness and community engagement. I designed a website, brochure, A5 cards, and interactive type sculptures, each element carefully crafted to reflect the area’s unique heritage. The project combines contemporary and traditional typographic elements to create a connection between Hawthorn’s past and present. Through these designs, I used typography as a storytelling tool to capture the essence of the local community, fostering pride and recognition while engaging audiences in both physical and digital spaces.

Bugs

The branding for the fictional lolly brand Bugs was inspired by Aesop’s Fable, The Ant and the Grasshopper. The design concept combines playful, vibrant elements with a nod to the fable’s themes of work and leisure. I used macro photography to capture intricate, close-up images of bugs, which were adapted into a unique magazine-style format for the brand. The typography features the typefaces Mundial and Hobeaux, chosen for their bold, clean lines that complement the bright, vibrant colour palette, evoking a sense of fun and deliciousness. This branding design aims to bring a whimsical yet refined aesthetic to the world of confectionery, engaging consumers with visually rich and mouth-watering imagery.
