Hello, I’m Kai, an emerging communication and motion designer. My proudest creative solution is an animated teaser on fatigue safety for the NRSPP ‘Toolbox Talks’ heavy vehicle safety campaign. I enjoyed communicating the client’s core message by creating effective animated imagery to connect with their audience about the dangers of fatigue, sparking my passion and career goal to create memorable solutions activated with motion to inform audiences by grabbing their attention wherever they are.

I have developed skills in branding, animation and campaign design, applying them in Swinburne’s design agency The Bureau and the Sa’ili Le Ala Discovery Sprints in partnership with the Centre for Multicultural Youth and NRL building experience in teamwork, project management, and creating on-site presentations for clients with large audiences. I was honoured to be awarded the GradX 2023 Citizen Design Award for my work at The Bureau and Discovery Sprints. In my spare time, I’m creating the identity for a new Lego theme. You can find me on Kaiddesigns.com, Instagram and LinkedIn.

Toolbox Talks Heavy Vehicle Campaign Videos, NRSPP

I created animations for the National Road Safety Partnership Program (NRSPP) ‘Toolbox Talks’ heavy vehicle safety campaign videos, helping to increase attendance at safety meetings. I then created a fatigue safety teaser, breaking down recordings from heavy vehicle driver’s experience of fatigue, creating hallucinations by distorting visuals and adding warning messages onto road signs and the freeway, encouraging safer driving decisions.

Sa’ili Le Ala Discovery Sprint Exhibition

Identity and exhibition material created for the Discovery Sprints exhibition. Showcasing achievements of the Pasifika youths who participated in design and animation sprints, creating pathways to university. The identity symbolises the youths “Hopes and Dreams” combining an athletics track (for each sprint) with a diamond from a star in the night sky to create a compass. I applied the identity onto large-format information posters and wayfinding featuring the youths stories from each sprint.

Equity Impact Assessments, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre

Team-animated staff training video for Equity Impact Assessments (EIA). My role was visually interpreting the script to develop and animate effective imagery for the final solution. Helping Peter Mac staff understand the purpose of incorporating this structured process into any of their programs and services. Understanding issues to find solutions with the people they work with and for anyone visiting Peter Mac (video, 3rd row down on YouTube).

Jar of Wonders, Natvia Hazelnut Spread TikTok Campaign

Animation reel for Natvia’s TikTok campaign to promote their hazelnut spread. I focused the story on turning the spread’s ingredients into characters keeping out excess sugar and showing customers the better alternative. I designed and animated the characters and objects. Jar of Wonders is live on TikTok @nativalivingofficial.

3D Animated Loop, Eye Watering Collection

I created a 3D animated loop themed around ‘Energy’, turning the letter ‘E’ into a jewellery brand showcasing their ‘Eye Watering Collection’ as a store window display, inspired by Hermès. I created a watery eye identity for the collection featuring water splashes in the background and water ripples as a pathway for giant pearls to activate buttons (energy) revealing the centrepiece, a diamond egg.
