Domenica Monique Espinosa Cruz

Hi everyone! My name is Domenica Cruz, and I’m in my final year studying a bachelor’s degree in architectural design at Swinburne University of Technology. During this degree, I had a great experience learning the field of design, especially in architecture. I wanted to further my studies with a master’s degree and apply for licensure, gaining experience in working with professionals in the industry.

Although I have faced numerous challenges, seeing my work develop brings me confidence, and I want to continue improving my skills. I have learned a lot of new software, which has helped me prepare for the workplace after graduation and improve my skills and knowledge in creating realistic designs and structures.

I’m interested in architecture because I want to bring my design to life! and seeing them in reality, having many people accessing it. Here are some of my final year projects that I wanted to share with you.

Lush – Railway Museum introduce Greenery: Central Garden

Introducing to you “Lush”, a railway museum for North Williamstown (Newport) which includes the concept of bringing back the rich suburbs from the past, and greenery within the area during the first nation. At the same time improving well-being, community, and honour the site’s rich history and identity and giving a unique interaction for visitors with the preservation of trains from the past.

BIM - Advanced Manufacturing and Design Centre (AMDC)

This project renovates the Advanced Manufacturing and Design Centre (AMDC) at Swinburne University of Technology. Improving the circulation of both students and staff within their comfort zone. Enhancing both privacy and public use for all users by bringing more facilities for students to access and make AMDC functional in every aspect, such as having a studio/ presentation with retractable walls, computer labs, a research hub, a library connected to two levels, a café, and bringing back the bookshop within the building and its own workshop space for modelling. Furthermore, the façade features a parametric design with a void for improved circulation, utilizing transparent polycarbonate and glass as materials, allowing more sunlight to enter the building.

Studio 4 – Hydraulic Interactive Space: Waterfront Form-Finding

This project focuses on exploring an interactive machine. I was inspired by hydraulic machines, which have a connection to a syringe and water, allowing them to push sticks within a pipe to form an interesting concept.
