Nellie Holder

Hi! My name is Nellie, I'm a graphic designer and illustrator originally from the Hills, but currently based in Melbourne. I love to work on a wide range of projects and enjoy doing anything from advertising to formatting documents.

I've previously worked as a graphic designer for Micio in Oakleigh. Since then, I've been freelancing. I have a Bachelor's degree in Design, as well as a Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design.

I was also the 2024 Skillaroo representing Australia in Graphic Design Technology during the Worldskills 2024 international championships in Lyon, where I received a Medallion of Excellence, placing in the top third of 31 participating countries. In addition, I was the gold medalist in the Australian national championships the previous year.

I'm driven by a lifelong passion for anything creative. I spend my free time creating and crafting, which keeps my imagination (over)active. As well as being a proud gunzel, I'm a nerd, I love to learn about everything and anything. When I say everything, I do actually mean everything. I also have a love of anything and everything kitschy!

Radial

Advertising campaign to make Melbourne's Metro appealing as a form of alternative transport, in other words, to make catching the train cool.
The campaign is centred around creating a recurring travel zine about locations on each train line in order to encourage more train travel organically. The colourways for the zine are taken from the train lines on the map. The aesthetic is inspired by 90s nostalgia, cut-up zines and zine culture as a whole, as Melbourne is a global hub for zines. The zine aims to authentically capture the underdog spirit of the city and its rail network.

Dissolving Boundaries

Publication design of a 32 page book. Text by Lili Lin.
Using a right to left page format as a nod to traditional Chinese texts. The colour scheme references colours from the landscape of Shanghai. The work emphasises fast-moving disorientation and visualises the journey of the women described in the text. The motion blur effects on both the images and text evoke a sense of life speeding past you, boundaries bleeding into each other and the feeling of instability and confusion. A flexible grid system has been used to emphasise this feeling without losing structure in the text.

Neptune

Packaging design for a new brand of shower tablets.
Inspired by the sensory experience of using shower tablets. Neptune is an affordable luxury. The visuals are sophisticated with touches of fun, referencing ripples and hazy mist. Using colours closely aligned with the scents they represent and simple language to appeal to supermarket shoppers. Neptune shower steamers are designed for an audience that doesn't have the time for a full wellness routine, but instead wants to relax quickly and easily.

Divergent Minds

Rebranding of Asperger's Victoria.
This rebrand serves to update the branding and use more inclusive and modern terminology. referencing 'neurodivergent'. The mark visualises the various supports provided by the organisation, most of which involve supporting autistic people socially through peer support groups and wider advocacy. The speech bubble signifies the social connections that Divergent Minds helps to foster, as well as the more literal connection in the synapses.
The brand uses bright colours, that are soft enough as to not be overstimulating and to convey the playful empathy that underpins their values.
