Welcome to the Ella show!

Hi, I’m Ella and I’m a graphic designer from Naarm/Melbourne. My design process is like a rollercoaster - fast, fun and unpredictable. I am a vibrant and imaginative individual. As a designer I love exploring and solving problems through creativity and out of the box thinking. I possess a unique ability to infuse fun and liveliness into my work, making my designs stand out from the crowd. My greatest loves in design are illustration and branding, I believe there is so much opportunity to mix intelligence and imagination within this field. This year, 2023, I have earned my bachelors of design in communication design (yay!) and I am beyond keen to join the industry and using my passion and creativity for good.

When I'm not designing (which is rare), you can catch me at a local music gig or putting together slay outfits.

My portfolio showcases a kaleidoscope of innovative projects that demonstrate my versatility. To view my full folio visit ellawhitehead.com

Titanic Publication

Overview:
I am a certified Titanic NERD! This project was rebooting the original 1912 report into a publication for modern readers.

Approach:
In the publication I focused on connecting to the feeling you have learning about a tragedy in hindsight by connecting modern to the present. I also wanted to place you on the voyage, so each publication came with a character card and the text itself was sealed in a water proof bag, like it could travel with you from land to the shipwreck.

Uncle Gremlin (capstone)

Overview:
Uncle Gremlin is my baby. For my capstone I worked with a fiction recycled clothing brand named Uncle Gremlin and created a brand identity for them.

Approach:
Uncle Gremlin creates unique and fashionable items from unloved and "ugly" second hand times. When creating their brandmark, I used mismatched elements to represent the brands creative process and a hand drawn typeface to represent the casual and playful attitude of the company

A Haunting Presence

Overview:
A Haunting Presence is an academic report exploring how to deal with sites of slavery in modern America.

Approach:
In the publication I connected the theme of black placelessness found in the text to the reality of racism in modern America by creating a visual graphic link to the Black Lives Matter movement and protests.

Not Just Nanas

Overview:
Craft Victoria is an organisation dedicated to supporting, presenting, and producing craft and design-focused creative practices, this was their annual report.

Approach:
Craft is often deemed as a hobby for the elder or for small children. We all know though that being a maker is a legit career and craft is important to our society. I created a visual juxtapose with the visual language and the written text to show craft is not just for nanas.

Albums of Joy

Overview:
Albums of joy is a photo book with images discussing the theme of joy.

Approach:
This project was a treat, I approached it by simply following the brief - finding and capturing joy. ( in the perceptive of a young and urban 20-something)
