Hi there! I’m Hui Shan, a communication designer and also a perfectionist who always pays attention to every single detail in my design. I’m always writing, journaling, thinking and feeling.

Design thinking is the most important part when I design; most of my works have a well-thought-out narrative and are led by simplicity in visuals. I also love putting a human touch into my design through textures and handwriting to create warmth and authenticity. I love to create meaningful and purposeful designs, using my tiny efforts to help shape a better world.

HOOME

“HOOME” — “Hundreds Family Surnames” exhibition is an exhibition to share stories about Chinese surnames with the Australian nation respectfully and inclusively, with aims to promote cultural exchange and encourage visitors to explore their heritage. The exhibition structure concept includes keywords of ‘door’, ‘room’, ‘root’ and ‘neighborhood’ to indicate the welcoming design direction.

The Non-Place

A monotone publication design for “Baring Life and Lifestyle in The Non-Place” by Sarah Sharma. Having full CMYK black printing on black paper for covers to visualise the experience of navigating the non-places, supported with clean typography, minimal images and narrow spreads to show the anonymity and neutrality of the fragmented non-places.

Emma

The novel “Emma” by Jane Austen portrays Emma’s enthusiasm for matchmaking. The design of the mini publication integrates sewing, line art illustrations and flowing typography to visually capture the essence of the lighthearted mate-matching story.

Cosmos

A gatefold album redesign for “Cosmos” by B.I. Cosmos means universe and a type of flower. To sustain the album’s retro feel music, a fish-eye photo is taken to visualise the round universe, with the cosmos flower as the main highlight in the centre.

The Fading Barrier

The campaign goal is to raise awareness regarding coral bleaching in the Great Barrier Reef. The overall message focuses on the bleached coral and the wordings are created from the viewpoint of the reef. Soft and vibrant colours will be used to convey emotive and positive emotions.
