Heath Glen

Hi! I'm Heath.

I’m a communication designer based in Naarm/Melbourne. Through Design By Heath, I specialise in textured, photography-based graphic design, creating audience-centered outcomes with empathy and insight. I challenge design norms by experimenting with innovative and progressive ideas, aiming to produce engaging, tailored user experiences.

With a strong foundation in research and data collection, I’ve developed high-quality designs for music and charities, mental health campaigns, and branding projects for reputable events and bands. I recognise the importance of research and understanding the client in creating an engaging, exciting, and equally tailored user experience for respective audiences. My passions include music, footy, and mental health, and I’m open to addressing sexism and LGBT+ stigma in my work. Outside of work, I enjoy music, keeping fit, and soaking up some sunshine!

Essendon FC Digital Media Rebrand

For this fictional assignment, I was given the creative freedom to create and respond to my own design brief. Here I gave myself the challenge of rebranding Essendon Football Club’s digital media with a focus on generating positive engagement of socials, and grounding the club in their values. A focus on history, culture, fans, and inclusivity was of utmost importance. A strategy document, brand guidelines, and a series of social media tiles were generated in order to bring this project to life.

Brain Nourishment

Brain Nourishment, a mental health campaign which promotes decreasing screen time, and highlights the negative impact doomscrolling and brain rotting has on one’s mental wellbeing. The campaign aims to break the habit of doomscrolling and the consumption of brain rot within Gen-Z. All while decreasing screen time, to which Gen-Z has the highest screen time on average compared to other generations.

Design By Heath

My own personal branding is the most fun I’ve had creatively with any project. For project 1, conveying my textured, photography based design style accompanied by a newly made logo was a fun challenge! For project 2, I drew inspiration from the nostalgic I-Spy books from my childhood, and blended this with the established style of my first branding project. The two projects involve a logo design and supporting visual elements and can be found on my Design By Heath instagram.

Misrepresented Publication

This student article written by Karl Spracklen explores the invasion of far right ideologies and activism into the music genres of Black Metal and English Folk. For this assignment I was given the task to transform the article into a publication, with the intention of engaging the audience into the reading material in a way that’s consistent with the themes and subject matter of the article.

Brain Candy Album Redesign

Released amid the uncertainties of COVID-19, Hockey Dad’s ‘Brain Candy’ became my lockdown companion. This album art redesign aims to capture the albums playful indie rock sound and lyrics which delve into themes of self-doubt, change, and mental health. The album’s cover, with scribbled-on brain imagery and a symbolic band-aid, embodies personal growth and the journey to recovery.
