Hello! My name is Samantha Delaney. I’m a Melbourne based designer with an interest in all things creative. Originally from a rural town in Victoria, I moved to Melbourne to pursue my passion for design. I’ve spent the past four years studying a double degree in Communication Design and Marketing at Swinburne University. As a result of this I have developed an interest in Branding and storytelling using imagery and illustration. In my studies I have also grown an appreciation for publication and packaging design. I primarily use Illustrator and Photoshop to create my designs however I carry around a sketchbook so I can sketch potential ideas that come to me throughout my day. I believe that it is important to foster creativity even when not working on a project.

In my spare time I spend time doing creative projects with friends and visiting galleries for inspiration. Living in Melbourne has given me the opportunity to continuously invest in my creativity through events, craft classes and meeting likeminded individuals. I hope to continue my design journey in the workplace and help create impactful designs.

Glimpse Gallery

Glimpse Gallery is a brand created for a conceptual Gallery created for Swinburne School of Design and Architecture with the intention to display exhibitions, student work and artefacts. The brandmark can be used to frame the work and convey a digital image that visualises the innovative values of the brand. The brand language encourages viewers to take a “glimpse” using negative space to obscure the artwork in advertisements influencing the audience to visit the gallery to see the entire work.

Tea with Alice

Tea with Alice is conceptual tea range in need of packaging for their product. The packaging uses illustrations to visualise the storybook influences of the brand, a use of a limited colour palette and negative space. The keyhole in the back of the packaging allows consumers to peek into the packaging to see the tea leaves and replicate the experience of Alice peering into Wonderland.

Quiet Activism

Quiet Activism is a publication design for the article ‘Quiet Activism and the New Amateur’ by Fiona Hackney. The book visualises the themes of devalued activities, DIY crafts and gender. The pink monochrome colour palette emphasises the hyper feminine stereotype of domestic crafts, with collaged images to mimic scrapbooking. The final book is handbound with embroidery thread and adorned throughout with lace and ribbon to add texture for the reader and further enforce the themes.

SwinWay

Swinway is the creation of a brand for Swinburne University that aims to promote and educate potential students on the several different pathways available to them. The brandmark illustrates Swinburne’s iconic ‘cheese grater’ building with a red path leading upwards. Use of the path is seen throughout the brands language creating a memorable and identifiable identity.

Rethink Recyclling

Rethink Recycling is a campaign design created for Clean Recycling Initiative to educate the public about recycling textiles. The campaign uses illustrations that mimic clothing tags that hold the information of the materials composition that is used in recycling the clothing, instead promoting the current statistics of textile waste. The campaign includes the creation of posters, social media advertising, a website and a short animation that can be used in video advertisements.
