Communication Design

What appeals to me about design is the ability to tell stories or create a message. Being able to break down an idea and build it back up again from a different perspective. Just because you are creating something seemingly simple doesn't mean you can't put your own passion and meaning into it. I’m always on the lookout for the latest trends and new perspectives to implement into the next project. I would consider myself an all rounder designer, I'm still working on my software skills but I’m always up for a challenge, no matter the medium.

1Q84

This project required a set of visual compositions based around the book 1Q84. Photographs were taken around the city and digitally altered to create an abstract representation of the text. These 3 images were then adapted into various forms of visual communication such as the book cover and various formats of advertising.

Paint Nail Polish

Paint was a brand of nail polish created as the modern day the lines between gender roles in fashion become more blurred. With the advent of men wearing nail polish rises, the goal was to design packaging that is gender neutral to appeal to this new demographic.

Sprite Forest

Undertaking a 3D modelling class to broaden my skill set, a subject of a hidden shrine to the spirits of the forest was designed, modelled and rendered out. Post production was also applied, drawing on previous skills to enhance the designs composition and aesthetic.

Surface Festival Website

The yearly festival required an easy to use website that offers easy navigation and access to all events of the festival. Keeping the website vibrant to insure it fits with the festivals themes of creativity along with some edge relating to the nature of street art.

Goo Dude

this is a character I created for personal use and branding. As a way to expand my skills i turned them into a rug.

In a time of treaty-making and voice we understand that there are overlaps between caring for Country and the sustainable production of goods, services, experiences, products and buildings.

Guided by the principles of respect, reconciliation, and reciprocity we undertake to indigenising and decolonising design practice by dismantling colonial structures and challenging biases that have marginalised Indigenous voices and design.

As students of SoDA you will be given opportunities to both engage with and educate yourself in Indigenous creative practices and cultural protocols through a lens of inclusivity, diversity, respect, mutual understanding, inter-cultural dialogue in all aspects of design practice. Indigenous people have been telling stories, making tools, and connecting to Country through visual media, placemaking and place marking for more than 60,000 years and these practices are part of an ongoing, evolving and live tradition.
